The German Studies Association of Australia Inc. is a multi-disciplinary association for teachers of German language, culture and literature. It was founded in 2000, and incorporated in 2002, in order to promote teaching and research in German Studies at the tertiary level. It arose from the need to provide a language-specific forum for exchange among staff teaching German Studies and to create a national platform for articulating their concerns. Its main activities to date have been to organise national conferences and workshops and in July 2003 it held its first conference, “Diverse Directions in German Studies,” in Sydney and in September 2007 a second on the topic of “Erinnerungskrisen/Memory Crises” in Melbourne. In 2009 it plans to hold its third conference in Perth. We welcome members from Australia and New Zealand as well as from Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Die German Studies Association of Australia ist ein multidisziplinärer Verband für Dozenten der deutschen Sprache, Kulturwissenschaft und Literaturwissenschaft. Sie wurde im Jahre 2000 gegründet, 2002 als Verein eingetragen, um die Lehre und Forschung in German Studies in Hochschulen zu fördern. Sie entstand aus dem Bedürfnis, ein sprachenspezifisches Forum für den Austausch unter Deutsch-Dozenten zu bieten und somit ein nationales Sprachrohr für deren Anliegen zu schaffen. Ihre wichtigsten bisherigen Aktivitäten bisher waren die Organisation von nationalen Konferenzen und Workshops. Im Juli 2003 fand die erste Tagung zum Thema “Diverse Directions in German Studies” in Sydney und im September 2007 die zweite über “Erinnerungskrisen/Memory Crises” in Melbourne statt. Im Jahre 2009 wird die dritte Konferenz in Perth abgehalten werden. Wir begrüßen Mitglieder sowohl aus Australien und Neu Seeland als auch aus Europa, Asien und Nord- und Süd-Amerika.
